Circus School Graduation Day

On May 1, some three hundred young children and their parents filled up the amphitheater in Swaitat Park in Jenin to see a remarkable performance. The Palestinian Circus School, which had been invited by RI-SOL to come to Jenin in February, was celebrating the graduation of its first class of students from the area.  Fifteen boys from the Jenin CBLAC and 25 girls from the Girls Rehabilitation Organization trained in a variety of circus events over the previous three months, such as juggling, balancing and tumbling.

The Palestinian Circus School gives children a chance to challenge themselves, focus their minds and express themselves in a unique way. Not only did the school help children and students in Jenin by giving them exciting and structured extra-curricular activities, but it gave them a new sense of self-confidence with which they could amaze their family and peers.

The performances included a variety of juggling and diabolo stunts, along with a mix of tumbling and gymnastics. Two girls performed trapeze performances some fifteen feet over the ground, dancing in the air with grace and poise. Some of the most impressive stunts were performed by children as young as six. The audience was enthralled and the Circus went on to do other performances in Ramallah and Hebron the following days.
