Recycling workshop

Environment is one of major issue that we focus on it in our activities at our community centers. April is the international environmental month, because we keep trying to make positive changes in youth and let them take care and responsibilities of their community and the environment they live in, we organized and scheduled a lot of environmental actions and activities like clean up days and campaigns, planting trees, painting walls, do needs assessment about garbage cage.

Recycling is one of things missing from our community and there less awareness regard this issue for this reason we organize 4 workshops in 4 areas (Jenin, Salfeet, Nablus, Hebron) about it. Paper that has been used and treated for use again is recycled paper.  Paper from homes, offices, and schools can be collected, sent to special recycling centers, and remade into usable paper. This process can take place again and again.  Since we don’t have reliable recycling centers in most areas in the Palestinian Territories, it is important to know that there is a simple and enjoyable method by which we can recycle discarded items, such as computer paper, grocery bags, milk cartons, boxes, and newspapers.

In this activity, we worked with young adults to teach them how to recycle paper.  The workshop started with a small 15-minute discussion on the environmental situation and various ways to appreciate and conserve the environment.  Then we taught   the kids how to recycle paper and give them hands-on practice.  At the end, while waiting for the paper to dry, we conducted an environmental quiz the winners awarded RBO books.

Students learned

Students learned the simple at-home method of recycling paper. They able to share this knowledge with their friends and family.  It is a simple way to show these kids what they can do to help the environment.  20-40 kids participated in each workshop.
